Dear Stepping Stones,
How do I move forward from the same issues and out of the feeling of failure?
Take time to sort out one’s thoughts and emotions and then make a conscious choice of what can be done to move forward. Acknowledge the good already accomplished and be aware of the tools already developed while taking the time to really understand oneself. This is a time to really give yourself grace for you have already recognized that you would like improvement. At the same time, don’t go into critical self-analysis. Make a tool box of skills one has or can develop to transition to release the old and transcend it to a restorative change that one can embrace.
Think about what can be in a tool box to use when one is in moments of frustration, grief, or guilt and the numerous emotions we can carry. Are you a verbal person and enjoy talking issues through. Does journaling help organize, acknowledge, and recognize your thoughts and emotions. Many feel a sense of gratitude, appreciated each day, rises them to see potential and view life with optimism. Some use affirmations to lift and give positive focus as a way from dipping too low in self-pity. Walking in nature, crafting with your hands, sitting quietly in non-critical review are all techniques to assist in recognizing one’s feelings and thoughts. Explore what works that will support managing life’s challenges.
Challenge oneself to end negative self-talk and negative thought patterns that the personality ego presents. It insists on the sense of failure when it is in fear. Rise above the banter to higher thinking and the support of truth in one’s heart. Rise above the fray to a broader expansive view observing a lower view of things, a middle view, and a higher view. It seems the issues that face us and cycle around our life are often things we are trying to gain a greater understanding of so that we can leave behind a fear, a self-judgement, a feeling of guilt, a grievance or a sense of shame. We could have trapped ridged ideals and roles. Something of value could have been taken away causing resentment. We could feel guilt over not taking responsibility. Sometimes it feels as if one’s choice has been taken away by societal, family, or religious values that may have been interwoven through generations. It’s possible we feel judged by ourselves and others as not good enough. The wounding of humanities psyche is vast and even just a small glimpse reveals the long difficult path we as people have had.
Despite the challenges, become more aware of the situations around one presently and choose to manage them by incorporating a higher way of awareness and understanding. Look back at where one has been and all that has been accomplished. Look back at the history of our world and know we are progressing. Thoughtful moments in history have shaped our world today from Egypt to Rome, Charlemagne’s preservation and advancement of the arts and education, the Carolingian and Italian Renaissance, England’s Magna Carta and John Locke’s ideas of individual rights as a human being as well as his philosophical ideas that helped form the U.S. Constitution. The American Revolution, WWI & WWII, Women’s Suffrage, Civil Rights all play a part in our advancement as people and as we recognize with awareness, that the way forward includes greater freedoms and rights of all beings.
Understanding our culture, family interactions, religious and societal values can help us transcended the inflexibility of the past. The rigidity of ideas and roles can hamper us. Our thoughts of restrictions limit us. Question if these ideals still have a place in our society and one’s life or if more flexibility and freedom of choice are needed. When did that viewpoint start? It may have worked in the past in that time and space. Question if it makes sense in our world today. Have we moved to a higher understanding and can we remake the old and release the block? Have we moved to a higher awareness and can we transcend the old to a restorative change that is good for the individual, all humans, and all living things; an inclusive society where the rights and freedoms of all living things is honored and supported by sharing our light when we are able.
Healthy relating with family, friends and co-workers in cultural content are part of our everyday life and we can heal our wounds because we are “good enough” and we can accept love and share light so we can all have a fulfilling, meaningful, and quality future. We have not “failed.” I’m sure one’s soul feels this life is very informative and at the same time the soul supports one’s rights and won’t interfere with choices while quietly offering guidance forward. It’s truly our choice. Let go of pain and suffering and accept goodness in one’s life. Our challenges and struggles inform our soul as we grow in awareness. Don’t reject love out of guilt in thinking one is unlovable for many do care as a sweeping movement for all and for each individual. We all have had different experiences. We are all individuals with different thoughts, emotions, and physicality’s. Our challenges are similar to others and at the same time unique to who we are. As an individual, we can choose to raise above our past issues with small steps of change giving ourselves grace to keep stepping forward, one stepping stone at a time.
“At every moment, we always have a choice, even if it feels as if we don’t. Sometimes that choice may simply be to think a more positive thought.” Tina Turner
