Dear Stepping Stones,

How do I work with people who are repeatedly critical and sometimes even display bully behaviors?

It is the way of the world to have conflict of opinions and find commonalities to move forward. It is also common whether on a playground, in a workplace, or within a family group that over critical and controlling behavior occurs. The behavior crosses into bullying when it is repeated, unwanted, and aggressive creating an imbalance of power with intimidation and ridicule of others.

The best one can do is to observe what is happening in a balanced space and stay away from engaging emotionally within oneself or exteriorly. Acknowledge one’s feelings without getting swept up in them. We have found that seeing both constructive and destructive actions, along with the space in the middle, fully aware, is a safe place to be. Find purposeful commonalities when they appear but, do not directly confront or attack. Navigate around obstacles with efficiency, engaging a connected mind and heart. The heart is not controlling and will show the mind options. The mind’s position is to review opportunities and make choices. Let go of past judgements to see the future by focusing one’s awareness looking forward to positive discoveries, potentials, and opportunities. Be open minded to the guiding forward movement of inner light staying connected to soul.

Sometimes it is necessary, especially after observing repeated patterns, to take a step back because the illogical logic that is expressed is not coming from the heart. They may be polarized in their thoughts by the ego’s need to control and their own pain.  They can’t feel truth in their heart because it is blocked by their own strong mental and ego fear. Accept that some people cannot be trusted. Let them be where they are and hold no expectations for their behavior; one is not responsible for their actions. Don’t judge them for not being better because they really can’t manage beyond where they are at or they would do better. Bear no ill-will since they cannot feel what is real, or what their motivation is, or their intent.  In most cases, if we could do better, we would. Own one’s part in the situation and move forward with focus on one’s awareness by being conscious of ourselves and how to best move through our environment with balance. We attest that this isn’t easy work but, it is work worth doing.

Look within, for it is here that we learn and gain understanding for all of life’s experiences. Reach for the soul, pull on its’ wisdom and adapt to life situations through love, encouragement, care, freedom, and liberation of self. Don’t be discouraged by life’s twists; instead go to balance by restoring the heart of who one is and who humanity is to be. Many Disney movies share examples of the journey to awaken the heart within. Moana followed her heart with the support of the natural world to her ancestral roots and self-discovery. Sleeping Beauty is a story of the beauty we all have inside. The opening rose symbolically representing the awakening heart with the kiss of a prince representing the touch of the soul. Frozen is also a journey of self-discovery with sisters Elsa and Anna finding hidden talents revealed within the awakened heart as well as the love of family and friends. As we have done, we recommend watching these movies to discover the power of choice, understand motivation and intent, along with the feeling of sweetness expressed in the heart. Lift one’s heart by asking what the heart cares about and find a treasure chest of possibilities.

The universe is changing and as the Aquarian Age continues to open, it will not give energy to behaviors that are not constructive. Darkness feeds on itself. So, think of it as a trap and don’t give negative energy to behaviors that are not constructive. There’s a story behind the why and how people are who they are; respect their process. Pride of mind creates separation when both sides feel they are right and the other side is false. Let go of being correct and know that truth is always evolving. Only love heals and its qualities can be broken down to respect, acceptance, and appreciation. Find these qualities inside oneself and for others and then there is no need for opposition. One never loses if the decision is to stay engaged with life. Just keep moving forward and like the Disney characters, we all have support to succeed and get better.  Know where one stands and why, then leave room for all to grow like a flower with each opened petal symbolizing a new understanding and discovery.
