Dear Stepping Stones,
Can I make a positive difference in society with my thoughts?
Thoughts make a difference in our society and it is the thinking mind combined with heart and constructive purpose that generates new ideas to assist us in a better world. To contemplate, ponder, consider, and weigh ideas brings in possibilities and potential that empower and prompt constructive change. It is through our wish, intent, and purpose along with the direction of our thought towards a better more inclusive world for all, that moves change and gains even more momentum with collective thought.
It is not about getting on a pedestal to proclaim an opinion, it is about the internal process, as we strive to understand ourselves employing awareness, we become more thoughtful and attentive of our actions in the moment instead of being on automatic pilot. We can focus with attention on making constructive choices, moment to moment, and that builds momentum tipping the scale to more positive outcomes.
Many times, an individual or group has drawn attention to a cause with an idea of constructive purpose that was then put into action. That idea and its presentation changed the world. Respectful, accepting, and appreciative relating in training of horses, dogs, and pets in general has led to an awakening of the human-animal bond. Building trusting relationships in training without harsh treatment, training aids, or bondage and instead developing a relationship with mutual trust to the intelligence of that living being, creates an unbreakable bond.
Back in the 90’s, the Midwest Horse Fair hosted a horse trainer with new ideas, Pat Parelli. Pat’s concept of Natural Horsemanship was revolutionary compared to the high force techniques used at the time. His message of, “the dynamics of horsemanship can be obtained naturally through communication, understanding, and psychology,” changed several of the old ways that we used to train and interact with our horses. Within a few years the transformation of our thought was obvious in the horse supply stores. Many of the harsher types of equipment was no longer sold while equipment designed for the comfort and safety of horses was now available. Thirty years later, our relationship with our horses continues to improve as additional ideas are added to a better foundation of care developing a respectful relationship between the horse and rider.
